Moving more for our mental health, Mental Health Awareness Week 2024

It is key for our mental health to move and keep active, but it’s something many of us struggle with as life gets in the way. This Mental Health Awareness Week is about trying to fit more activities into your daily routine.

At TMT, we completed our Move-A-Thon last month, which saw Danny Price take the trophy; it was great to see how many of the team got involved. The competition birthed the TMT Strava group, which provides an encouraging space for colleagues to encourage and support each other.

Our Social Committee has been key in helping us build the culture and connecting everyone here at TMT. We deliver this in multiple ways:

  • Free breakfast for all HQ staff to encourage conversations over our morning caffeine and cereal
  • Healthcare plan, supporting colleagues’ health and easing access to healthcare
  • Monthly company-wide competitions, such as the upcoming Great TMT Bake Off, raising money for Solent Mind

We still have a long way to go to support our colleagues and their mental health, but we are committed to learning and growing as a company, supporting our colleagues, and promoting healthy and open conversations to ensure our people feel supported.

“TMT is keen to invest in finding new ways to support our colleagues and help them build strong relationships with each other.”
Recruitment and Retention Manager – Rebecca Crouch – completed the Mental Health First Aider qualification run by Kate Peters from People Unboxed (learn more about them below!).
“I found the course insightful, and Kate is excellent at making you feel at ease and answering any difficult questions you have. Mental Health has always been very important to me. Working for a business that supports a healthy work culture and balance is very important. Since completing the course, I am better equipped to support our workforce. Implementing small changes has made a huge difference, and we must remember that we are all human.”

Sam McCarthy – Director of Key Accounts

At TMT, we acknowledge that one in four individuals in the UK will encounter a mental health issue every year. As a company with a workforce exceeding 100 individuals, we prioritise the provision of comprehensive support to our employees, given that a significant portion of their time is spent within our workplace.
Our commitment is to cultivate an environment characterised by safety and inclusivity, where our colleagues feel empowered to express themselves without fear of judgment or bias. We recognise that fostering a culture of mental health awareness is an ongoing journey, therefore, we remain dedicated to continuous learning, growth, and investment in this crucial area to ensure that we remain at the forefront of addressing this significant societal concern.”

A member of the TMT Project Team

“After the bereavement of a close family member, my line manager and director were very supportive in allowing me to continue to work from home while managing to deal with the multitude of tasks required when being the sole executor of an estate. When I returned to work from the office many colleagues welcomed me back and asked if I was ok. All of which was appreciated by me and my family at home.”

A member of the TMT Engineer Team

“Last year, I went through one of the worst spells of health in my entire life. This affected my mental health in quite a considerable way. TMT helped in every way they could to ensure I could continue to work but without the pressure of needing to work if I needed to be at a hospital appointment, etc.
Even though we did not have a mental health trained staff-member, the way they handled the situation was very professional and very helpful. Since then, TMT has invested in mental health training and a staff member who offers assistance whenever and wherever it is needed. Thank you to everyone at Tailor Made Technologies.”
